my local church has a cross on its roof.
i was going to say "my local church has, unremarkably, a cross on its roof" - since we're familiar with that, in a way: crosses and churches are symbols the culture knows
but this morning i sensed something about that
when a community gathers under a cross: the call to humility and surrender
who can stand in such a place?
the price of what has been done; the call to speak out of the rightness that has been won there; the severity of what has been done
the point of history focussed there: the mystery of God in history, dying, more than dying, alive again
